A couple years ago I found one of these in EF, and it was listed on cuds-on-coins becoming the earliest known date for a Lincoln Cent BIE by far (1930 is the next oldest year). I still have that plate coin, but this is the first time I've seen another one and this one is in even better condition. If you try to find this on the BIE page of cuds-on-coins, note that it is a "multiple" which has its own category at the bottom of the page with all the types and years on it. http://cuds-on-coins.com/ii-f-multi...f-die-break/1910 Lincoln Wheat cent die event - BIE LDB34567-1910-001

So a broken post qualifies as a BIE?

@frog, or maybe rather it is that die crack going through LIBERTY. I agree though that when I think of a BIE, I typically think of die chips between the letters.

The broken post is not the BIE, although it's part of the whole thing. To learn the way it works exactly we would have to ping JC to answer as I've never actually seen a full definition of the BIE, but I've worked with the BIE stuff long enough to know that this one qualifies. "Multiple" BIE's often have some form of die crack drifting from the rim east to west through various letters.

Well dadgum, don't see the BIE connection here, anxious to learn more.

Quote: Well dadgum, don't see the BIE connection here, anxious to learn more. From the link TB posted at Cud-on-coins Quote: NOTE: All coins with two or more die break anomalies will be listed separately in a NEW file called Lincoln Die Break, II-F-Multiple. This file can be found as the last entry on this page. The attribution numbers (following the LDB) on TB's coin indicate where the break has occurred. Between L-I is position #1, between I-B is position #2, between B-E is position #3, etc. TB's coin (LDB 234567-1910-001) is a "multiple" since there is technically a die break between I-B(2), B-E(3), E-R(4), R-I(5), I-T(6), & T-Y(7). The crack isn't very large but it qualify's as a die break. For those seeking clarity (I had to refresh my memory), the image at the link has arrows pointing to the break between each letter.

In looking more closely at the cuds-on-coins page linked by @tb, it seems that indeed they are calling a die crack between the letters of LIBERTY to be equivalent to the die chips we traditionally think of when looking at BIE cents. In their words: Quote: This coin is a "IIBIEIRITIY" Added: or just read what @pete wrote immediately above this post.

From my standpoint I've always liked these multiple BIE types, even if they are a bit more unusual than the normal way of thinking about such things. Just kinda think they are cool looking.

Hi smat, Yeah, when you've found a bunch of things sometimes you find one of your own finds. I've also seen a couple posts here where they turned out to be things I've found. It's kinda cool like seeing an old friend.
