This spring I purchased a silver maple from a long time collector friend of mine. He thought it came out of a set, but I have been unable to find any information on it. It's a bit unusual as both sides of the coin are showing the reverse and there is no date or denomination present. Any information on this coin would be appreciated.

What's the weight of the coin out of the 2×2?

Edit: Based on the rim thickness from one side to the other I would guess a proof maple leaf was hollowed out and the other side was inserted much like a magician coin.

Would love to see a micrograph of the edge in several places.

Nope.here is a picture of the the coin taken in the mirror with my phone.
I am fairly certain that the coin is legitimate. The fellow I purchased it from is a long time collector of mint product and has had a very extensive collection over the years, which he is starting to liquidate.
The coin is not magnetic, but only weighs 24.65 grams, including the holder. The weight is a bit weird for a silver maple. There are no markings on the coin that indicate a weight so it may be something other than a silver maple?

No I have seen a silver dollar made into a Magician's coin. There are no markings on the rim that would indicate that this coin has been subjected to that sort of alteration. I will try and post some closeups of the rim.

Looks like a marketing/salesman piece to promo the proof/reverse proof maple leaf, maybe silver plated?

The XRF would help define if this is a fantasy piece or something really cool, generally with salesman samples the weight would be correct

Not sure... I say Flip it. If its heads its real... and if its tails its a magician type of coin or intentional fake.

Better photos of the edge/rim would help.

Looks like a 1989 proof on one side and doesn't say 1 oz. as normal, the other side on yours doesn't say 1 oz as it should on 1989 and looks different.

I think Wrekkdd got it right in his first reply.
It's a Magician's coin.
Look at the rim in the first pic you can see the joint.

A few more pictures. No joint at the rim. It's easier to see with a loupe than to photograph.

I know it appears that this is a Magicians coin at first glance. Just curious, if indeed this is a Magicians coin can anyone tell me which two coins were used? I don't know much about Maples, but most of the maples I have seen indicate the weight (one ounce) on the reverse, or if it's a fractional set 1/2 ounce, 1/4 ounce, etc. Nowhere on this coin is there an indication that this is a one ounce coin. That just seems strange to me.
