Looking for opinions on collecting error coins. Personally I don't collect them. I do look for big dollar ones when roll searching / change. I think looking for WAM Lincoln a waste of my time. Although I did find a 1984 Double Ear Lincoln VF that I used to get $60. dollars off a 20 cent coin I bought from a local dealer. I have enough of a coin addiction without needing another one collecting what I consider token coins. I say collect what you like, if you want to search for errors to fund other coin purchases, that's great. I do that myself, with errors and silver. If you want to collect errors for their own sake then do that too, I say go wherever the road takes you.

I say just keep an open mind and a sharp eye out. I was never interested in errors/varieties until I came here two years ago. With the help of a few forum members I acquired an "addiction" to Morgan and Peace dollar VAMs. As my knowledge of these varieties and errors grew, so did my passion. And some times you just have stupid luck! Like picking up an off-metal ( LMC on clad planchet) at an auction for $8. It was clearly marked on the 2x2 what it was, but there was not much interest in the room for mint errors ... good for me. Sent it off to PCGS and now it's holdered in MS63 and worth around $300. Nowadays, if anything looks slightly strange I check it out here. Nice to have this resource at your fingertips.

Offered two identical coins, one with and one without an error, I will choose the error coin every single time.

I collect errors. There's mostly damaged coins in rolls lately. Found a 1941P-1DO-002 which is a Doubled Die Obverse searching thru some pocket change. If you want to collect true errors it's a little more difficult then one thinks.

As most of us have found,( no pun intended ) collecting anything is very time consuming, tiring, and worth the effort put in if you really want to find/collect what you are interested in.My passion has also led me to seek more and more knowledge about this hobby/addiction. I personally have a passion for collecting tooo much and my spare time has changed to the point of, taking in more knowledge of what I am seeking, or just hunting for that " one more coin"LOL, that said, I love to find "true errors" and the out of the norm coins or currency, just found that errors are an extremely hard thing to find and my eye's will probably never be the same, but I will always be looking out for those coins...... Happy Hunting.....

I check all my pocket change. I've found about $40.00 - $60.00 in errors, from cent pieces to Eisenhower dollars. I put them in 2x2's and label them. I've found LMC with what looks to be an out of place hair to the new Alaska Quarter with 8 claws on the bear to Eisenhow dollar with DDR wing & head on eagle.

I personally am half and half about them, if I find them I keep them but I do not go out of my way and buy them. Over the last year or so I found about 10-20 LMC with some type of error and keep them because I found them, no other reason. I do not really get into them and will most likely end up selling or trading them on this board so until they do an updated Dansco book that includes all of them I do not see me keeping them all.
