ok on my 1955 D penny could this be a doubled ear I thought it was machine damage at first but now I'm not so sure because it looks to go the whole length of the ear almost

I agree that it doesn't appear to be doubling on the ear lobe. Here is a link to the three known DDOs for this mint/year for your research @pris. Studying these should give you a good idea of what to look for, although circulation wear can obliterate some of the details.

That area is probably the highest mountain on the coin. So it will be dinged the most there. Remember a doubled ear, will be raised, not incuse below the design. Check out the thread below:

Then read the comments and what to look for on doubled ears. (this might surprise you. Train your eyes what to see on a doubled earlobe)

ok thank you coop I will check it out but first I'm going to post a 84 penny I think might be a doubled die reverse let me know what you think let me know if I'm looking at it right
