I found a canadian 1978 25c In a coin roll that has the following specs

5.6 grams
25.2% nickel
74.2% copper
Trace manganese

Non-magnetic

Maybe about 1% off center strike
All detals are identical that to a normal 78

Most probably a foreign planchet.
For instance,
It could be struck from a planchet intended for
another British Commonwealth country, that has the same specifications as the British 5 Pence coin.

The RCM has produced circulating coinage for over 70 countries around the World. Perhaps impossible to say exactly which Country, because the weight specification would match perhaps 5 or more of those Countries.

Thanks for the reply guys looking through what the mint made in 78 I can only really seam to match it to a barbados 25c planchet (5.6 gram - 23.6mm) or a cayman islands 25c proof planchet (5.7 grams - 24mm)

Standard canadian 25c is 5.07 grams - 23.88mm

Comparing all aspects of the coin and mine being slightly larger at around 23.9mm +- 0.1mm I'm leaning towards a cayman islands planchet

More likely the Barbados planchet.
A 24mm planchet would not fit in the press but a 23.6mm planchet would easily expand on striking.

On 2nd look there's also the new 1978 new zealand 10c planchet (5.66 gram 23.62mm) I'll have to source one to test trace elements for comparison
