Hello, I found this coin and felt it was different. I looked up the coin and saw that there are a few out there that are special, though highly unlikely to be in circulation. Anyhow, I wanted to post it here. The imagery is still very defined and not worn over as I would expect for a coin from 1968.

Hi and
That is not a proof dime. It is an environmentally damaged dime.

1968-Proof-Dime-Question
The no 'S' is a proof strike. Your coin is a normal Business strike coin. The proof Dimes were supposed to have the mintmarks on these proof dimes, it didn't have it on this die. If it the double striking of the proof dies with the dies that shows stronger on the proof dies. Mirror finish on the fields.

CoopHome: How are the proof 1968 no 'S' different than the normal business strike dimes? they are double struck and have mirrored fields and stronger devices

Understood. This coin does not have the mint mark. There were a few proof coins that did not have the mint mark, But I understand there were regular coins that did not have mint mark.

I think the coin could have a mirror finish, but it is dirty. I'm afraid to clean it. I guess the picture doesn't do it justice.

It is not a Proof coin. It would be showing the Look, if it were a matte proof. (Never clean a proof coin. It will ruin it quickly and make it an impaired proof coin)

You are thinking of the 1982 no mintmark dimes:

Again, note the strike on these 4 years. The proof dimes have a stronger strike. Note the lower left dime. That is a business strike coin. So even business strike coins can be missing a mintmark on coins. But cents from Philly only had one year where there was a mintmark on the 'P' mint coins. 2017-P

Cents only had mintmarks from Philly that one year.
