I think it's a fake- probably a Philly with an added 'CC' When comparing to the VAM's posted - different 'C' Hope I'm wrong. I would take the suggestion and let us know

Quote: What did you do? She looks great! I decreased Levels 10%, did 50% Sharpen Filter and 10% added contrast in the Gimp. The Gimp has a fantastic Sharpen filter, far better than Photoshop's in my opinion. There's nothing wrong with postprocessing a shot if the end result is closer to the true look of the coin.

Dave, I just saw your reply.. I may have to get the GIMP, as photoshop doesn't sharpen nearly that well. Apparently neither does the built-in Canon stuff, as I sharpened to the max before converting to .jpg.
I think I'm going to have to send this poor Lady to be graded so we can all know for sure!

I don't see anything unauthentic about the coin. It's a grease-fill. Not at all uncommon in Morgans. I've completely abandoned Photoshop in favor of the Gimp. Not that Photoshop is all that bad - you can get results just as good with Unsharp Mask as the Gimp can give - but that means twiddling three parameters rather than just the sliding Sharpen scale. In Photoshop, any more than 20% Sharpen gives noticeably grainy results. In the Gimp, you can reach 50% without killing the image; this means a much more granular adjustment range. And the Gimp's Unsharp Mask function is still just as good as Photoshop's. The price is a lot better, too.

I was wondering how an inverted up side down C would be placed as a raised clash S.D.

Quote: I was wondering how an inverted up side down C would be placed as a raised clash S.D. I was wondering how you see it as upside-down; it isn't. The staggered placement of the C's is similar is similar to many I saw at Heritage while researching mintmark placement for this issue. The "inversion" is a common optical illusion associated with coin photography; you might not see it as inverted the next time you look. There are some detail pics I always see as inverted, even though I know darn well they aren't.

Looks real to me.A lot of the CC mint marks looked misaligned and odd shaped. I would have it certified.
