I purposely didn't post a pic because I'm only looking for advice. I have what I think is a very stout 1978 class VI DDO LMC.I wanted to originally sell it, but there aren't very many 1978 DDO's listed. I believe of the ones that are listed they are all minor dd. I haven't seen any nice full strikes that would jump off the page and say pick me pick me. Anyway getting off topic,I decided to just keep this one because I don't think I could get that much for it, because all the dd's out there are minors. So my question is should I get it slabbed so I can protect it from any kind of damage, or since it won't realize it's true value, should I just put it in an air tight and keep it preserved that way. Thanks for your input it's appreciated.

We will need to see good photos front and back along with one or two close ups to really help you. John1

I think ANACS is the only major grading service that will attribute a doubled die that isn't listed in the CPG or (in the case of NGC) their Variety Plus listings. Personally, I would not slab it, since it's worth less than the cost of grading. Just throw it in a 2x2 cardboard flip.

If it is a new one, you might want to send it to one of the sites to determine if if is a doubled die. Some slabbers list only some numbers, others don't accept the those numbers. PCGS only uses the FS- numbers. But charge extra to add other sites numbers. While ANACs use other numbers. Just to protect the coin, you can by certain holders to protect the coin, that don't require fees. So if you have a new listing, getting it listed is important. Fees for these are not like the third party graders amounts. If it is too minor, it might not get listed, or maybe a site already has a listing for that die number. So knowing what it is, is where I would start. Then go from there.

You wouldn't submit a coin for grading without sending the coin in, same applies to us here, you cannot ask us specific questions about a coin without showing it to us. So here's our best answer since we cannot see the coin: Maybe?

Not seeing any class vi thickness with these pics.
Do see some type of doubling on the left side of TY as well as much circulation and die wear.

Thank you Mr Coop for the side by sides. The T is not MD there is no shaving of the device the T is on top of a T. Like the pic in VV 1977-D The Y that is how the T in this pics is. Because these pics had to be taken way down in size and quality it removes some of the details. There is a split in the nose of the 7 & 9. The R in trust has lost its resolution quality. In the loop of the R and the leg you can see there doubling. I also see a big dif in the size of the letters and num.im sorry I have nothing but the upmost respect for you Sir but I disagree with you.

If your coin wasn't circulated it would be a better argument. A little bit of circulation flattening could do this. Check CoinFacts as well. Some years there are more than one master die and one can be thicker than the others.
