Can you take a photo with the original colour. I don't think that dime is brown. It should weigh 2.5g so the only thing I can think off looking at the thin rims is that it has been acid etched which would account for the weight loss. Clearer pictures would confirm this.

Could be acid, but we don't usually see that with silver, do we? I wonder if the rims edge wasn't lightly abraded. @bog, is the reeding on the edge still in place?

The OP says the coin has reeds so I don't see how being abraded could be the cause. I would like to see a clearer photo of the reverse. With acid, the letters slowly get thinner as the acid eats away.

Yes the reedings on it are very strong and it still has a raised edge, the diameter is just very slightly under a regular sized dime

a bit far away to see anything of note. It looks like a MAD strike though. rim thinner at K10 and thicker at K5

This dime must be silver. An up-date photo is need with must possible real color. This red now is strange, but IMO is just the way to take the photos. O, R and side photos is need.

I say acid treatment.

I agree, if it is under weight. 2.5 grams.

Could be just a thin planchet with environmental tarnishing/discolourization, and I agree it has an acid soak damage to the surfaces.
