Hello fellas, I want to confirm this 1928 Peace dollar is genuine. It tests out at 90% silver on the XRF, but I don't have a loupe to check the die diagnostics. Here are some pictures:

Look closely for a removed MM.

So you have an XRF machine but not a loupe?

All kidding aside, I'm guessing you used someone else's XRF.

Buy a loupe.

Area around STATES and BUS does not look quite right to me, compared to a PCGS example.

Is that a D mint mark? If so, it's a fantasy piece.

Lack of luster, design mushiness, and placement of some of the lettering would raise flags for me. Hope some true Peace dollar experts will chime in. Any backstory to help us decide?

@chopped: there was no 1928-D Peace dollar. Just the key-date 1928 (mintage just over 360,000) and 1928-S (mintage 1.6 million). Peace dollars came from Denver only in 1922, 1923, 1926, 1927, and 1934. They were produced again in Denver in 1964, but that's a story for another day.

This coin looks genuine. It is a circulated piece, so there wouldn't be much luster left. I don't see anything specific that would lead me to believe this coin is altered or a counterfeit.
