Thanks so much for info. I will be looking immediately on getting a bettter microscope and Pete I have gotta learn more about how to add diameter to my photos. I have found a good one to ask questions on. It's a 1972-I believe a DDR but am still learning the difference between that and MD.

@dee, thx for posting an additional coin. You will see that I have split this post from you prior thread. Please start a new thread for each new coin. Also, please don't use all caps when you type. I'll fix it for you this time. Thx.

It is really hard to differentiate Doubled Die w/ Machine Doubling with these 1972 cents. I learned recently that if the bottom 1st "device" is flat and 2-dimensional looking, it is likely Machine Doubling. I have a lot of 1972 cents like that so I know it is hard tell from the Newbie perspective. Then there are the variety descriptions for some cents that say "Extra thickness" or "Small spread..." etc. so there are no visible separation lines which makes it hard to tell DDD from Doubled Die cents. Thanks for sharing!

I have been looking for notches at serifs for these types of coins as well as the ones w/ "Extra thickness..." but it is hard without the high megapixel camera equipment. I cannot even see them with my HD camcorder pics. The cheap USB microscope is not my favorite thing either.

The obverse could be showing master die doubling. Not the 'D' on God:

IF so it is common on 50% of the normal cents that year from all three mints.
