Here are a couple of pictures of an 1853 Seated Liberty half dollar that I'm curious to get everybody's thoughts on. These coins are sometimes difficult for me to grade once they get past the high VF range.

XF45 unless that rubbed area in the right obverse field is trying to hide something like graffiti or scratches.

I'll say AU-50 straight, 53 would not surprise.

It's definitely beyond the high VF range. While the black streak across the upper obverse is a bit distracting this piece looks very high end otherwise. Good remaining luster, a nice strike and minimal contact marks for a heavy, circulated coin make this an AU+ to me. AU53 or even 55 on a good day.

Another pic slighty tilted to see the obverse fields would surely help...just a little concerned with what kinda looks like vertical lines in the fields...and with the light mark extending from her right wrist (newer staple scratch?) and it would give a better depth perception on how deep the gouge under her left forearm is and the line (scuff) extending from her left arm up to star 9...
At least EF-45...but w/out another pic...that's where I'm at.

love those 53 quarters and halves. maybe an acetone bath will help but its a nice coin. I think there is more luster and sharp details than an XF and even AU53 coin. I have it at AU55
