Hey folks What do you think this one would grade? The pictures are not doing this coin justice, and also enhancing every minuscule flaw. This coin has the look! Thanks! You realize when you know how to think, it empowers you far beyond those who know only what to think.

I'm sold on the first two pics, you don't see Ike's that clean every day, easily MS-65 to my eye

Looks a lot like my 1974-D, so I will join in with MS-65. Very nice!

Quote: The pictures are not doing this coin justice, and also enhancing every minuscule flaw. when you are talking 66 and above grades these miniscule flaws will make a difference the obv strike is a little too weak to make 66 particularly the hair on the back of the head is not fully defined the number of small marks on the cheek, jawline and forehead may hold it to MS64 or maybe a +. all those miniscule marks add up of those fields. I'm betting the second set of photos are more like in-hand observation

No way in the world this is only a 64.
In hand this thing is a gem easily.
The first set of photos is actually what it looks like in hand.
Thanks for your opinion though.

MS64+ for me. The last two images posted seem to reveal a bit more 'chatter' than I'd expect on a 65.

Thanks Jbuck, we need to teach these folks how to grade Ike's. The 65's win this one. Like smat said in other thread, these surface tics are common. These are called Planchet Chatter tics, or PC tics. They are not to be confused with PMD. Also, in hand this coin looks likes the 1st set of photos. Like Jbuck said in the other thread, these "distractions" are actually not visible or distracting to the eye in hand. I appreciate your opinions.

Quote: Thanks Jbuck, we need to teach these folks how to grade Ike's. After completing a PCGS set, I can honestly say that not a single one of them looked worse in hand than the pre-purchase photos; most have been surprisingly better. This is why I now give them the benefit of the doubt. No matter how good the photos look, the camera always seems to show things on Ikes that my eye just does not see. This is not necessarily true for other coins, but the Ike is a special beast.

Thank you. I meant to ask earlier, is that a Dansco the Ikes are resting upon in those photos? If so, are you building an album?

A nice Ike. The Reed Marks on the forehead and the hit under EPU hold it just under 65 for me. Agreed that chatter is not PMD.
