Hello, I sold four sovereigns and I am looking to get into bigger and more interesting gold coins. A proper gold coin and jewelry shop here in Rome has this 1910 st. Gaudens priced at €1740 or $1760 (more or less). I'll do a weight and ping on it, but anything jumping out as being off? He also has a 2022 gold buffalo at €1830 ($1850) Any thoughts would be appreciated!   |

Your photos are a little dark and hard to see details. From what I can see this one would be AU-58. Can't make out the mint mark above the date either D or S, I think it is S.

Funny, it looks like a D to me. Can you give us a close-up of the date/MM area? Also, I assume this is not the actual color?

No. The color off. (i editted when I got home and saw the pictures on my laptop better than my phone). The situation wasn't idea for photos. It's hard to explain but it's not really done at coin shops in Rome. Let me see if I can close up ....

I'd say MS-62. Doesn't seem to be a bad deal unless gold keeps going down.

@collects, I agree with your deleted post. I do not think the coin is the best example. He's at 1740 euro. The coloring is off in hand. Not 'off' fake, but like it was in a shoddy plastic holder for a number of years. Notice the contrast in the photo, that is realistic to the coin in hand. I am going to take a look at a few more shops tomorrow, specifically for gold coins and see what comes up.
I am torn between diversifying into pre-33 gold or bullion. I have some soverigns to sell and a buyer lined up; I am in profit - small, but profit - on the soverigns - even after keeping a few better examples for my collection.
Of course, the elephant in any room on these discussion is the downward trend in gold prices....

Don't worry about the gold price dropping right now, this is a great opportunity to buy. It won't last with the global inflation starting to skyrocket. Were you able to see what the mint mark was on this one?

The grade is a bit difficult to tell from the pictures, but I'm going to take a shot in the dark and say that it grades at MS-62. The cluster of scratches to the left of the eagle on the reverse would hold it back from MS-63 in my opinion.

if thats the actual color I have questions about authenticity. I'm not a gold expert but I dont think gold tarnishes or loses it color like that. I would be very skeptical if thats the color. my previous grade was based on the fact that the photos and lighting may be culprit. maybe a gold person can enlighten us on this.

I think this one grades as AU. The colour must be a photography issue, never seen gold look that way.
