I have this checkbook-like thing of one dollar bills.
It looks exactly like a checkbook, but instead of checks, there are $1 notes with consecutive serial #s.
Does anyone know the backstory on these and if they are worth anything?
(I have images just am unable to uoad as a new user? Not sure why tbh)

Back in the 1970s I made some of these. Just took a pack of bills and used rubber cement on the edge. Then colored the cemented edge with a magic marker. The things kids do.

So the 25 $1 notes I have in this "book" isn't anything special.
Just a book of $1s then?

@net, first welcome to CCF. Second, I'm going to move your thread to our paper money subforum to get some good eyes on it. To help with the assessment, could you please add a pic or two of this "book"? It sound fascinating to me. Thx.

Welcome to CCF.

Typically, these "scratchpads" didn't use special or fancy serial numbered notes, so the value is in the novelty, which is usually twice face. They're still available on ebay which is where I got this pack (20) of $2s.

Some banks used to do this since the late 1970s so people could buy them and give them as cash gifts or xmas gifts and considered a novelty, and businesses as well who would use them for promotional things. They even engraved the person's name on the cover. They were like pads of paper glued (gummed) along the left side, or like a checkbook. The notes had sequential serial numbers. They go by the names of Peel and Spends and Scratch Pads. You can even find them with star notes

This company sells them also currently in different denominations if you ask:
https://moneypads.com/products.html

https://currency.ha.com/itm/small-s...7082-21348.s (sold for $45 back in 2007)

The Happy State Bank & Trust in Happy, TX sold "Texas Scratch Pads" in $25 and $50 denominations as well.

I have a neighbor down the street that asked me to look at his coin and currency collection he inherited. He had one of these too, I thought it was pretty cool.
