So today I went down to the Harrisburg, PA coin show to drop off a bunch of coins at the ANACS booth. But as expensive as that was, this one was the big buy of the day. These are super rare, as in none are currently for sale on ebay or show up in the sold listings. And at a pretty midling grade of MS63RD the coin has an ANACS population of 2/4. If it crosses to PCGS at that grade it will still only be at POP 4/8. While I've never been super active at collecting the set of 1972 majors, this one does complete my set so when I was able to negotiate a pretty good price I went for it. Always kind of figured this was one I wasn't going to find in a roll and would have to buy, which has come true. 1972 Lincoln Memorial cent doubled die - DDO-004, FS-104

Very nice! Three of the nine examples shown on the PCGS website are falsely attributed, so safe to say a genuine one like this is even rarer than the grading companies say

Thanks folks! And I was unaware of the bad attributions on the PCGS site. That is worth looking into as there are so few of these that most are probably in registry sets and if not the right die should get called out to restore the correct rarity factor. At least for this one the rim Cuds around LIBERTY were clearly visible so was pretty darn sure it was right. But I got an ironclad guarantee from the seller that if it turned out as a mis-attribution he would fully refund my money. Great guy and would buy from him again any day.

Amazing pickup! Nice to see one of those properly attributed. As mentioned, there are a good amount of varieties misattributed out there and this is an easy one to misattribute. Attractive coin and a very rare variety, congrats!

Great buy!
I should have went to that show, it's right by me! I did go to a show last weekend though and spent more than I should have, so maybe it's for the best lol.

Thanks! And Tanman, I should have pinged you that I'd be over by you but only found out about that show yesterday so it was kind of a rush job to get there today. Other than this one and a couple BU rolls the only other coin I picked was a 1942-S DDR-001 in PCGS MS66RD. So really didn't find a ton of stuff but quite happy to get this one and another pile off to ANACS. Slowly working through getting all the DDO-001 coins slabbed and a lot of them have to go to ANACS to get it on the label.

That's nice, congrats on the pick up! I was asking the other day, on another thread which of the 72 DDO's was the super rare one. So it's 004. I know this is the one that gets miss attributed and is usually 007, I think....
