So I am new to collecting. My girlfriend actually got me into it she's been collecting since she was a little girl she has a couple Penny and dime books actually almost filled. So I came across this penny it's really shiny and looks new to my surprise its from 68!! The Lincoln is raised and it seems to be an off-stamp like the in God we trust is almost cut off the l in Liberty is almost cut off and the six in 1968 looks bigger and unusual and it also weighs 3.08 grams. I will post a picture but I know the quality isn't the best on this site but any info is appreciated.

Your pics are a bit blurry and a bit too much glare, just a FYI. Your coin is normal for the year.Is your GF a member here on CCF?

All the cents looked like that, that year. It is a case of a worn master hub that was swelling from many years of creating the new design for the coins. They all had the devices pressing into the rim area.

A new master hub was created in 1969:

Note the two years side by side, how the devices locations/sizes were different. Note the size of the bust was also affected?

CoopHome: What caused the devices to fill into the rim on the 1968 cents? a swelling master hub was the issue. fixed in 1969 with a new, new master hub

to the CCF and as Coop shows, the difference between 68 and 69 is like nite and day.

first pictures (not so good) second set of pictures are great. Please try to get the best images you can before you post them up. (sometimes I need to take and retake several before I gat an image that is nice and not blurry.)

Anyway, your coin is very normal for that year. Coop has posted up several helpful images to show you what to look for.

since you are new to collecting all " no mint mark" coins are Philidelphia Mint coins. You could abbreviate by just saying 1968P
Welcome and have fun!
