Looks like a definite extra thickness DDO to me, but it's an odd one as it looks more like a class VI with doubling extending radially towards the rim rather than the more common rotational smearing about a pivot point that we see on most class IX extra thickness doubled dies. I feel like this would be well worth submitting to VV or Brian (the person who handles Jefferson nickel varieties for Wexler). Edit: even weirder, the top serifs of the letters seem to be less affected than the bottom serifs of the same letters... this is a very weird one, and I'd really like to know what one of those experts thinks.

I will submit these to Brian and see what he says. I almost missed it because I normally look for smearing or spreading. I went through all nickel years from 2010 to now that I have and nothing like this. I will post what I find out.

I would definitely have missed this since I don't even check these devices ordinarily. I usually look at the date on the obverse and MONTICELLO on the reverse.

Wow definitely looks to be a DDO to me. What's throwing me off is the direction of the doubling, it looks like all the lettering is doubled towards the rim? Like the old Class II + VI. I have not seen that happen on a single-squeeze era coin yet. Quote: even weirder, the top serifs of the letters seem to be less affected than the bottom serifs of the same letters... I recall some of the old Class II + VI DDs having this effect as well.

I sent the info to Brian's variety coins email. The message said failed to deliver. I sent it to support@briansvarietycoins.com on his site. Does anyone have a better link to email?

@CaptJeffWorthFL try either posting to the CONECA forum or sending an email to James Wiles at Variety Vista.

I found a couple of these but couldn't get the pictures that you did. I blamed it on Die Deterioration.

It doesn't follow the normal DDO for the single squeeze dies. So I feel this might be very interesting. Keep us posted on this one.

It is packed and ready to be sent to Texas for a hopeful hand attribution from James at Variety Vista. Once I hear back from him I will post the outcome.

I like the extra thickness. You did a great job of showing it.
Will be looking for the update.
