1970 S 1¢ Doubled Die Obverse / DDO -001 Late Die Stage

Ozzy5150 Valued Member United States 117 Posts	Posted 09/23/2022 11:29 pm Just a quick question as to the value of a 1970 S 1c DDO-001/FS-101 that is not as crisp as most examples. I've read that there are known "mushy" or late stage examples. I found a very nice red ms64 or better that definitely falls into the late stage or mushy category. I need to come up with some quick cash and would just like any insight as to a fair price. Let's say based on the parameters given. MS64 Red, Identifiable but not crisp, uncertified, most likely sold to a dealer. **I'm not posting pictures for the simple fact that it's difficult to ID by photo and I simply would like an honest consensus based on the info given without starting down the rabbit hole of authenticity based on difficult to interpret images. Without pics [even with pics], your best bet is to place your own value on it. edit: You state it is MS64, is it unattributed or uncertified? Wasn't the die famously removed from production early in its life and all known examples are in very early die state, hence the rarity? Also, this die variety is so major that it should be easily identifiable even in very late die state if one existed, so if you say it's hard to see in your images, I'm inclined to say it can't possibly be DDO-001. I agree with lots of the above and to get the most value (if it is the variety) isn't a quick process. Assuming you are correct about the variety, the best way to get the value out is to have it slabbed which is what a dealer will do. I'll add that if it's hard to ID in hand but a dealer agrees with you and makes an offer it won't be near any verifiable sales. Maybe 1/3 to 1/2 the value of a slabbed one in the "grey book" of what the dealer feels is the grade. All the best and hopefully you can add some images.
