***I got my pictures up on the second page...please have a look!*** Hi, My dad gave me a whole army trunk full of old coins from the U.S. and other countries. I'm assuming they were collected from his time traveling in the army. I was hoping somebody could give me direction or some answers on the coins that I have. For instance, I have a Morgan dollar but have no idea what would make it "rare". I know this site has links I could use but it is a little overwhleming for me because I don't know where to start. I plan on taking pictures of the coins so everyone can judge the worth of them. If anyone responds to this post then I will elaborate more on the type of coins I have, but for now I'll wait and see who answers. just some examples of coins I have (all of the mentioned date back to atleast the 70's)... *'Complete Decimal Issue and Last (pound sign).s.d. Type Coin' for Great Britain. * Sealed coins from Jamaica, Papua New Guinea, etc. * actual paper money from Japan, Italy, middle east, Canada, etc. * Old nickles (indian face on front) * Old penny from 1800's with Indian in headress on front ....and tons more. SO, I'd really appreciate some help on where to look for the price of my coins or if someone could look at pictures of them and tell me. Thanks in advance for any help! (oh, and just by off chance, would anyone know the worth of 'People Collectors edition' featuring micheal jackson from the 80's? Also, a John Legend tribute magazine and 'Times' with John Legend both from 70's or 80's) Edited by jasminer048 02/22/2009 8:34 pm

Welcome!
You could take pictures of many of your coins, either in small groups or individually. This way we could help you ID them and determine the condition and value.

Hi and welcome. I think you mean John Lennon of The Beatles, also, start with one coin at a time, post a picture of it, we can help you from there. I beleive it is overwhelming for you but it is impossible for anyone to help you without pictures or maybe at least a clear description of one thing at a time. After a while you may be able to carry the ball a little better yourself to find the clues to your trunk of treasure.

don't forget your local library has coin books - though they are most likely in the reference section and can't be checked out

Paper money must be perfect to get a premium over face value... or be very/old rare... like US bills that still state redeemable for gold/silver . Canadian bills would have to be perfect in any case. The magazines will get the best value on ebay... and nowhere else. I have had some experience with old Life mags... even with all info on yours I would not be fool enough to guess a price, but I think Lennon(hopefully 70s) would get something ... ebay. As for da coins. Save time. Scan a whole page/platten of them at a time and post here for a quick view/sort. Try to group coin types for each scan... unless it's a really big trunk.

Well I just tried to upload my pictures and it says:
Filename PIC_0130.jpg File names must use only valid characters Extension .jpg Certain file extensions are not accepted Size 783.38 KB File sizes must be under 90kb
Can anyone help me with this? I don't know anything about coins and I don't know anything about computers!

Try cropping it to the smallest size, but still showing the whole coin. This works for me and greatly reduces the file size.

Go create an account on Photobucket, upload, and find a place after the upload page where it says 'Forums" Then, copy the code and paste it here in the reply box. If not, I guess you can email them to me and I'll do it for you. And oh right, ! I want to see what paper money you have!

Open your picture in paint* and make it smaller with the stretch/skew option(less than 100%)... check in attributes that the file size is under 90kb. Change the file extension(last 3 letters) to gif in the second drop down list when saving changes. Post that image. You can also use a third party image hosting site as well...Photobucket or such(they free & that's what I do). *Open picture. Click...Closes this Program and Opens the Image for Editting. Bottom.(Sends picture to...Paint or...) Click Image.Top...Select Stretch/Skew. Change the % to less than 100, but use the same value in both boxes... like both at 50% to half the picture size. Click Image...Select Attributes to check file size. When 90kb or slightly less... Click File.Top....Select Save. Type in a name/or not in the File name box. In the Save as type box below...select gif from the drop down list. Click Save. Then send it on in. *Windows XP Service Pac3 & up to date. edit... I type slow, that's why I ended up saying the already said... 'nuff said
