Any thoughts on this MD? Seems to me a comparison of the size of the doubling on the cornice and columns is different. Shouldn't a double strike be an exact copy?

Classic Machine Doubling. The 'OF' is showing a struck through a Grease Fill on those devices.
(Note the devices are wider than normal because of the fill in the die, that prevents the strike of tapered devices that would be there, but can't be with the Grease Fill)

I agree with Coop about classic Machine Doubling.

Yes, the left of the memorial building is MD (I think that's what you mean by "double strike".) And MD can be localized in a large or small area.
I'm not sure what you mean by "exact copy" though, as the MD on the building is a secondary building edge produced by the die. The two converge towards the bottom but that is a classic example of MD.

The Machine Doubling happens after the strike before the coin is removed from the chamber. The machine smacked the coin post strike, and altered that area of the coin. On the next coin, a different area can be affected. It can vary from strike to strike. How do I know this?

I've seen it before. Same dies, same marker on the coin, different Machine Doubling from strike to strike. (found these in a couple of rolls of the same run by that machine)

CoopHome: Can Machine Doubling be different from strike to strike? yes and it does happen differently because of the looseness of that machine.
