$3.00 is a little over. These are common Pfenning coins from Germany. Most of the time you can find them in the $0.25 bin at a local coin store.

Nope, not the 1949 ones! These were issued by the new German bank and sorta have a premium. But still, $3 is too much.

Actually those 1949s book for $1.50 a piece. So all in all, not too bad of a deal.

The first coin and maybe others look a bit cleaned.

oh wait... $3 for all? Well, that's a deal! Especially with such good BdL coins!
Interesting story... since the BdL was a reconstruction bank, its money was not really issued by the German government but more the interim regime. Thus, banknotes issued by the BdL is not fully accepted by the Bundesbank now.

The Bundesbank will exchange all DM coins and notes, including those issued by the BdL, for an unlimited period of time. (Keep in mind that the Bank deutscher Länder was not replaced by the Deutsche Bundesbank until 1957, well after the Federal Republic was founded in 1949.) The only two exceptions are the BdL 50 mark note (series II) from 1948 and the Fed.Rep. 2 mark coin from 1951; the former can be submitted to some analysis center for redemption.
The first coin (10 Pf 1949) was still pretty common in circulation until the euro cash changeover. Nowadays of course the only source will be dealers. The pieces do look cleaned, but 3 US dollars sounds like a good price to me.

$3 for that? For me that's over the top. I'd be extremely happy if I was able sell those for such a price.

Sounds OK to me. 3 dollars for the five, that's 60 cents (roughly €0.50 or 2.20 zl) per piece. Maybe not the greatest bargain on earth, but not overpriced either ...

IMHO, that is a fair price. I would have paid it.
You said you bought 6 coins. What was the sixth?

Seems to me you paid about book value for the lot. Nothing wrong with that.
