I've been searching Kennedy rolls. Of course I'm looking for silver. But I've also found some other non-silver coins of interest.

One that I've acquired a nice example of is a few Kennedy half dollars without the "FS" in the obverse tailfeather/wing corner. This is the designers initials I presume. I have two that I have found with strong details on the whole coin. However, the "FS" is very faint on one, and missing altogether on the other.

I have set these two coins back for my personal collection because of these details. Does anyone know if this is a variety or some sort of special coin? I've only seen this on the 1972 coins. I've seen varying degrees of how well it shows up, but I've only keep the two best examples of it not really being there.

I think the 1982 P No FS initials was a big thing and still a popular addition?
I remember they were like 10.00 and featured in one of the coin magazines that year or in 1983. I think it was Coin Prices. I went and bought one for 8 bucks to add to my Kennedy set. That set is long gone now.

I think this is the result of a build up of metal particles and grease that tend to collect in that particular area of the die.

The CherryPickers Guide shows that the no initials variety 1972D is worth an extra premiun.

? Obverse tail feather wing corner? Do you mean without the designers initials FG on the reverse?

The FG is part of the design. It is not added to the die in a separate process. The master die contains it. If it is missing then it is probably a Struck Through Grease or excessive cleaning removed it from the die. It is not a case of not having the initials, they were blocked or polished off to cover a clash. If you look very closely at the ones that appear to be missing, they are there, just harder to see.
