I Was Wondering If My 1973 D Penny Is A Doubled Die Obverse / DDO ?

DrenoG New Member United States 1 Posts	Posted 10/06/2022 11:47 am Hello all I have a 1973 d penny and I see doubling on the date the 7 and 3 are most obvious.. also the mint mark is repunched or doubled.. I've watched countless YouTube videos trying to find this one but I cant. I was gonna go try to see if copper coins website had it but I've decided to come here first. I'm new to collecting coins as you can tell.. any advice would be greatly appreciated Report this Post to the Staff

coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 10/06/2022 11:52 am Just Machine Doubling. A DDO show on the centers of the devices, not on the edges of the devices. (Die wear and Machine Doubling is seen on the outside and inside edges of devices) Note the devices are enlarged in the centers of the devices. A doubled die comes from a doubled die. Machine Doubling is caused by a loose machine post strike. That is what you are seeing on your coin. Report this Post to the Staff

Either way both are considered a worthless type of doubling. Report this Post to the Staff

With MD the overall size of the devices (7&3 in this case) are reduced in width. The vertical leg of the 7 should be the same width as the top but the MD makes the leg look thinner if you remove the MD. Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups.
