Hi, guys!

If you wanted to buy rolls of the Anna May Wong quarters (one of each—PDS), how would you go about it? I know I can get them direct from the Mint if I subscribe, for $54, but obviously that's almost twice the cost of three rolls of quarters. So I have questions:

1) Is there a better way to get a roll of each, at cost or a bit over?
2) I'm not clear on what a subscription would mean. I think this is the last coin in the series (American Women). Would it mean I'd be on the hook to buy rolls of every future quarter minted, or would it mean that the subscription is pretty meaningless since this is the last in the series?
3) What are the rolls like? In the pictures it's really hard to tell. Are they like the old shotgun rolls that you can't really open up and re-close or are these in a plastic tube that could be opened so you could examine the coins? (Asking in case there are mint errors that the people I'm giving the rolls to might want to look for. Also wondered if part of the reason for the extra cost was the packaging.)

I'm not sure this is the right forum—if it needs to be moved, feel free—just let me know.

Thanks in advance!
Lisa

Buying them from the mint is the only way you are assured they are uncirculated. Anything else not in a mint roll, you don't know what you're getting. The rolls are machine wrapped and crimped. They are very tight you couldn't unwrap them without destroying the paper. Now the 3-roll box is the only way you can get the S mint coin. A subscription means they will send you the product without you having to order them when they come out. If you don't want them or want more or less of them, you can change the amount of your order. A subscription is good way to order products that are in high demand. It can be a rat race on the day that some things are released.

On the "s" mint AWQ rolls, they are technically over-subscribed and are unavailable until someone cancels a subscription (or reduces their current subscription quantity) for the 54$ PDS 3-roll set. That's a reason to get on the mint's email list to receive notification IF any 3-roll sets become available.

It was a stroke of marketing genius to eliminate the S coin bag and force buyers to pony up more bucks for the S roll they really want.

Also, the up and coming quarter rolls are not the end - the series is supposed to run until 2025 I think. and if you subscribe for these rolls, you can turn them on and off when ever you want.

The two roll set of P and D Anna May Wong still appears available for $36 with free shipping if you subscribe right away at the time I posted this, but the three roll set with the added low mintage 'S' that many are seeking for $54 appears to be unavailable to those who hadnt already subscribed (called enrollment in past). You can read more about the 'S' in the link just posted by Dearborn. You might try clicking remind me on the subscription and also the three roll set to see if you can get them otherwise such as from cancellations, or else perhaps stick to the two roll set without the low mintage 'S' that is the 'hot item' in that set.

Also, Uncirculated Coins: Are hand-loaded into the coining press and struck on specially burnished blanks, yet have a soft, matte-like finish appearance. These coins are made like circulating coins (which are used everyday as money), but with a special process that produces a brilliant finish so they are not the same as what you might get from a brand new roll of circulation quarters from the bank or a 3rd party seller online that may also look new.

Thanks, guys!!

I'm thinking of buying the rolls for a couple kids I know whose grandma is Chinese (grandpa was Irish). Right now they're really interested in all things Chinese so I thought they'd like the coins. Also, since earlier coins in the series have turned out to have some interesting mint errors, I thought it might be fun to sit down with them and go looking for quarters that might be worth more than a quarter—sort of a treasure hunt. I'm trying to get them interested in coins.

What do you think? Good idea?

@twslisa A nice gift. You can try at noon eastern on October 25th to order the 3 roll set gfrom the USM. There will be few available and they will go very quickly. You will want to set up an account ahead of time and it will be a challenge to order quickly enough if you are not used to the ordering system. The 2 roll set is available for enrollment and would be easy to get that way. Mint errors would be unlikely in the rolls. If you are interested in searching for errors try to find a local bank that gets new rolls of the quarters. You would only have one mint but they will still be uncirculated, just not the same as the mint rolls, and you'd get them at face value and could go through rolls with the kids and then cash them back in, just maybe saving a few. Good luck.

That sounds like the way I want to go, Smuglr!! This wasn't their actual Christmas gift, just a stocking stuffer. I realize it's a roll of the dice whether we find something (and it might bore them to death if we don't—uh oh). If nothing else maybe get them in the habit of taking a look at their change.

I see you are from Denver. I know when I was at the Philly mint, I was able to get an uncirculated roll of the latest quarters for face value. Best deal in the gift shop! No idea if the Denver mint does this too.
