Hi everyone, I just acquired these two mystery English Hammered Pennies. One is a long cross and the other is a short cross. But I am unable to identify the ruler or mint for either.

The first is a short cross and it is 1.5 grams and 18mm.

The second is a long cross and it is 1.32 grams (probably due to clipping) and 17mm.

While I do suspect that these are probably common rulers - such as Edward I or Henry III. Any help IDing the kings and mints stated on the reverses would be appreciated! Thanks.

Those are some cool silver pennies @arch. It looks to me like the second one says HENRICVS REX III on the front and at least LVND on the rev. Someone who is an expert should be able to get the class down, but I'd start with issues of Henry III minted in London.

Added: first one looks like it was minted in Canterbury. I think I can make out the letters .VN ON CANT.

Spence- Great! Thank you very much. I did suspect that the first may have been of Canterbury and the second may have been Henry III.

The short cross moneyer appears to end in VN, so perhaps IVN or HIVN who I believe minted at Canterbury under John and Henry III.

The long cross looks like NICOLE in London to me.

The second one;

Henry III Voided long cross, Class 5b (Sceptre, legend starts at 10 o clock, round eyes, wedge tail R, pointy chin) , c. 1253.

Reverse legend is NIC/OLE/ONL/VND
Moneyer: Nicole ( Nicholas de Sancto Albano)
Mint: London
