I can't tell from the small pictures but the condition looks too good to be true.

Looks like a copy/counterfeit.

You all think it is counterfeit because it is in good condition? That isn't the best way to determine authenticity. The color, wear, surface quality seem to be accurate of a coin this type in my opinion.

I think I will leave this one to the experts. PCGS recognizes about 15 different varieties and I read that there is a catalogue with 57 varieties. Way beyond my expertise on this one.

I'm like 50-50 on this one that's why I posted it. If you want better photos I can email them to you.

A. Where was it bought? B. If it is OP's coin, how much was paid for it? C. If it isn't OP's coin, whose is it? D. Why is a coin in this condition not slabbed?
Until these questions are answered, I will stick to it being counterfeit.

If genuine it has tremendous detail remaining. The color looks suspect but that could just be the images.
As questioned above, what provenance information do you have?

It was in a collection that had US gold, ancients, and other really good coins. Everything was raw. That being said the customer bought coins in a lot of different shops for over the last 50 years. So we really don't know where this one came from. I will send it to PCGS if I need to but just wanted to see if I can figure out for 100% that it's real before I do.

Best match up I come up with is a 12-M variety. This is a more common variety Heritage shows 14 previous ones sold you can compare to their photos as well. More circulated coin photos than the PCGS Coin Facts: https://www.PCGS.com/coinfacts/coin...-cinq-bn/883It looks okay to me but we really need much better photos than these, more resolution and larger straight on photos of both Obverse and Reverse to really tell more. Quote: Why is a coin in this condition not slabbed? Most of the higher graded Fugios I've looked at in collections are not slabbed, I'd say most colonial collectors abhor slabs, at least they used to, it changes mainly due to more auctions going online only and the auction houses only want slabbed coins to sell. The best collection I saw in hand was Pierre Fricke's set of over 50 varieties at the 2015 EAC convention, all were raw and many were finest known. He sold them through a Stacks/Bowers sale in 2021 and all were slabbed again by PCGS for the sale. You can see the catalog here: https://nnp.wustl.edu/library/aucti...ionId=537502 an amazing set to say the least.

The FUGIO was the first Federal coin; the contract was handled by people who struck many of the Connecticut colonial coins. Used to see them all the time like this in the '80s

I don't have the time to go into it too deeply but see no red flags at all. The grade is not at all unusual, there are many higher grade examples than this one due to the Bank of New York keg. Nice circulated example.

I would like to see some more photos in more natural light. But so far I don't see anything suspicious.
