Nice quiz...if those were posted here, I think we'd ask for bigger pics on several.
I would've liked them to post some 19C. doubled dies...they look quite different from these examples.

#3 and #5 were definite DDO. The #3 is a Lincoln Cent - 1955 DDO?. The #5 is a 1934 Washington quarter Dollar DDO.

I still can't get my brain wrapped around this stuff! I didn't see any "split" serifs anywhere. I have found several doubled dates on LMC, even doubled LIBERTY, (esp the LIB part)and am always informed that these are the common double strikes and not worth a premium.

Why is the doubled ear not a double strike as well?

Saving them all for future reference anyway, maybe what I need to do is buy that CherryPickers Guide to get some sharper images to go by.

(Was just looking through some cent rolls and found a 1969 S, have tilted it in every direction and can't seem to see any doubling...darn!

Is Strike Doubling and Machine Doubling the same thing?

I am not very good at this but I have noticed the difference a little better in those pictures... The Strike Doubling is flat looking where the Doubled Die has the raised edge on the letters underneath it

I've always considered myself a rank amateur on doubling but got 9 out of 10 on this(assuming Strike Doubling is the same as machine/mechanical doubling). I guess I've been learning more than I thought.

I have a hard time with them, still. Maybe it's my eyes (too much staring at the computer screen I think). I need to have a loupe to see dates on cents, and sometimes even nickels.

Taking pictures of the coins I have questions about so I can look a them magnified 2000x on my screen makes it easier for me sometimes, but is very time-consuming. And even then I still come and post pictures just to learn, once again, that it's MD

Two was tough from the pic and seven was impossible to see with my eyes. The rest seemed fairly simple.

Although I do not post much, I try to view and follow most posts since joining about a year ago. After getting 9/10 I would like to give a sincere thanks to all the pros for the great answers and explanations and to the all those who posted the great questions and pictures. And, of coarse to xshift for this post.

I feel a lot better about all those coins I throw back.

Tom
