It appears to be a scrape that displaced some metal pushing it into the mintmark to me.

I agree it is just PMD, a spender.

For sure mechanical damage, but any thoughts on whether there was a m8ntmark there to start? I think I see part of a letter D.

I give up. What does IDB stand for?

It is not in our glossary, nor can I locate it on-line.

Perhaps it should be added to our glossary?

I see the D now just slightly to the lower right.. I have never seen a die break large like that, usually just appears a raised slight line, but researching more they can be quite large, the shine kind of gave away environmental, but thought it was a neat looking coin regardless

It is not a die break - it is PMD - damage after it left the mint - it took a severe hit and moved the metal around a little. (Copper is a fairly soft metal and can be changed and moved to some point.

(IDB could mean 'Internal Die Break') but this is not an 'IDB'

I still get confused on die chip vs. die break, is it according to diameter? This one is definitely the hub but don't know if it would b a chip between 5 and 6? I know with this coin I could start a new thread but wanted to understand the differences compared
