This NGC AU50 CAC hammered on GC tonight for $775, $871.88 with BP. Numismedia puts a value of $156, NGC and PCGS both say $175. It's not the O over horizontal O. I saw the possibility of a different (undocumented?) O/O RPM so bid around $200 and was outbid by Bidder8. Then Bidder7 swooped in at the last minute with a $750 bid and Bidder8's October 3 bid still upped it to $775.

What gives? Am I missing something, or was somebody just messing around?

Take a look at the bid history. Someday had a nuclear bid in early and somebody threw in a crazy high bid tonight. I won't speculate other than to say bidder 7 jumped in late sent this piece to 4 times it's book value.

P.S. Just took a peak on ebay and this beautiful PCGS AU53 is available now for $272 delivered.

Yes, I was . It's not the Obverse 1 anomaly (which almost no one knows about anyway). There's a die clash on the reverse, common. PCGS price guide for O over horiz O in AU58 does say $750 and if you don't look closely there's some toning or something in the bottom of the O that might be mistaken for it, but...

Like I said, I was in it for the possibility of a different O/O but I sure wasn't going much over $200.
