So I've been looking at this circulated coin (1968 S Lincoln Cent) for about 30 minutes! I think it's an impaired proof. The Obverse is a lot better looking than the reverse which took a beating. Thought I would bring it up for opinions. Regards all and let me know your thoughts.

Given the images posted, looks impaired to me. The obverse appears to show that signature 'squared' rim. But having said that, the obverse seems to feature a slightly misaligned die. Curious.

Impaired proof sounds right.

Are you all sure it is a proof coin, the rims do not look squared off to me like a proof strike should.

since the high reflectivity of your photos makes it tough to distinguish between business strike and proof, I'd guess this is a business strike, which would also account for the observations others made

I examine the 1968 S coin again. I think you are right. It is a business strike with an offset strike on the obverse and not centered on the planchet. The fields are shiny but I looked at the other coin I had sent in (1972 S) and the rim is centered and the characters of the script have a outline too them. I stand corrected. Thank you all! Regards.

Those are proof surfaces. I think this coin was encased and worn as jewelry.
