As it currently is, you don't know.
There is a product called Nic-a-Date that might make the date readable.
BUT
That product will slightly damage the coin.
On the other hand, considering its current condition slightly more damage won't make a change in its value.

IMO its value is face value -- 5 cents.

Coin will need to be treated with Nic-A-Date (a proprietary date restoration solution) OR soaked in vinegar to bring out the date. Vinegar just takes longer to do the job.

Your coin will most likely still be worth only 10 cents after you restore the date. Good luck!

Sometimes we just have to surrender and say on the holder, date unknown, worn off.

Isn''t it household vinegar that might also work? Can't remember.

There is no date. So it is a dateless nickel. (Nick-A-date would not add a value to this coin. Probably a common nickel) But it is definitely not a 1913 Type 1:

I have a handful of dateless Buffalo nickels. I'm going to spend them - perhaps stimulate someone to take up the hobby.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Sometimes they are used to add to a belt when they are used for other purposes.

(No connection with this site, just an example of how they could be used)
