Can anyone tell me what class doubled die this is? Or is it just Longacre's doubling?

@jdr, can you please add a closeup image of the word OF on the reverse? I can't quite see the doubling well enough in these overall pics. Thx.

There is indeed a very strong doubled die reverse, just probably not in the areas you're looking at. The talons and leaves under the eagle are all strongly doubled to the south:

It's a gorgeous coin. The images I used here I just pulled from the trueviews of this exact coin.

As I understand it, Longacre Doubling is NOT Die Doubling.
Or at least not in the classical sense.
When the coin is labeled "Doubled Die Reverse", then it is the desirable doubling.
Particularly when CAC puts its label on the slab.

Longacre doubling is not recognized as a doubled die, nor will it get attribution from a TPG.

I'm aware of more than a few variety misattributions in top tier TPG slabs.

I do not have a coin of this variety in hand to study, but from the photos I would assume this would be a Class IV doubled die.

of course they make mistakes. everyone is human. nobody is perfect. nobody does something 45 million times without making an error.

the reason they are the industry standard is that they financially back their claims.
