In 2008, the US Mint struck a three-piece set of commemorative coins - Gold Half Eagle, Silver Dollar and CuNi Clad Half Dollar - to celebrate "the recovery and restoration of the American bald eagle, the national symbol of the United States;" the coins were struck on behalf of the American Eagle Foundation of Tennessee.
The Half Dollar was available individually as a Proof coin and an Uncirculated coin, plus as part of a
Young Collector's Set (YCS) and a
Coin & Medal Set. I've written about the
Coin & Medal Set previously (see it here:

Young Collector's Set. I discussed the drivers behind the coin program plus the plight and recovery of the Bald Eagle in the previous post, so I won't repeat it here - check out the
Coin & Medal Set post if you're interested.
The Bald Eagle YCS features an outer slipcase, a six-panel coin folder and an uncirculated half dollar. The slipcase features a design that presents a young boy and girl - the "Mint Kids" - with a dog, pausing their walk in the woods to gaze at a Bald Eagle perched in a tree. The young boy and girl are also seen on the slipcase's back panel where the Set's Certificate of Authenticity and Coin Specifications are found.
The coin folder presents brief Bald Eagle facts via a series of content "bubbles" interspersed throughout the cartoon-style depictions of a Bald Eagle in its natural habitat being observed by the Mint Kids and dog from the slipcase. All-in-all, it is a well-integrated theme and Set.
Sales for the YCS totaled 22,439 units. The Set did not have a pre-defined mintage limit. The Mint specified a three-month ordering window for the YCS (January 15, 2008 to April 15, 2008) and accepted all orders received during that time; the Set did not have a Household limit. The issue price for the YCS was $14.95; for comparison, the individually-packaged CuNi Clad Half Dollar had a Regular Issue Price of $8.95 ($7.95 Introductory Price).
