I was going through these tubes of 1960's pennies and need help on the grade. 1962 D penny. Another question about the misaligned error Obverse, does this cause the reverse die strike weak by not showing the steps of the Lincoln Memorial?
Thanks C/C

to the CCF!

It is a very slightly MisAligned Die strike (MAD) but not enough to cause weakness on the reverse. The weakness in the central section of the Lincoln Monument is common on cents due to the deep engraving on the obverse die. A slight shift in the die gap, strike pressure or even the weight of the planchet could have caused this.

Looking at the reverse, you can see a very faint inverted 'ghost' image of Lincoln's portrait from the obverse. His head shows in the field just under the monument and his shoulder and vest area shows in the steps, columns and roof.

Lincoln's shoulders and chest can cause weakness in the lettering of E PLURIBUS UNUM and even STATES oF, but this coin doesn't seem to show it.

Well explained above. This is the smallest MAD on earth, very slight and completely normal for the issue. MAD's aren't interesting to me until there are devices missing or cut off.
