I was searching my 5 sealed pouch Mint sets for that perfect 1981 D Penny. I only had one (Denver U.S. Mint Souvenir Set) and four (Denver & Philadelphia U.S. Mint white envelope sets) I found four worth posting for grade help! I will post the Obverse RD rainbow toner penny and work on those image specifications tomorrow! Thanks C/C Retired these last 10 years collecting coins, but I meant to type "Mint" set not "Proof" always welcome help, even if it does not pertain to the question asked about grade help. Cheers

That year proof coins were only from the San Fransisco mint not Denver.

Cool. Cent toning can be found in mint uncirculated cents (unopened cello packaging) . I have a number of nice examples.

avoid overhead lighting. best photos are indirect light or a window sill on a cloudy day. black background is best so that any color does not reflect back onto the coin and skew the color

the tick in the shoulder and neck will keep the coin out of the 67 range. the reverse seems to be weakly struck but glare from the lighting may be part of it. for modern LMC's TPG's are looking for fields free of discoloration with consistent color. for a 67 grade a near perfect coin is required and a cherry tonal coloration to them helps to push it over the line from a 66. also a full strike is almost always a must on both sides. every little mark is counted. value wise for LMC's they really need to be in the elusive 67 grade

i think your coin would grade MS65RD maybe a + but I think it would not cross over to 66

i look forward to your other posts. adjust photos accordingly would help

Grade help was awesome and photo instructional help is perfect for this rookie too! I gave up cellular devices 4 years ago, I am using a LOGI plug in camera for my PC. I will perfect my photos skills very soon; with your advice (thank you!) I have collected for ten years and only recently got online to share my coins. Appreciate all sagely advice from C/C. Cheers!

need to change the color. Badthad made me take a second look at it. color looks RB rather than RD and due to the reverse and the key area hits MS64RB sounds better for this coin

Real nice obverse tone . BadThad calls it a 65 but because I'm a hardliner I'm giving it MS-64RB due to the 2 obverse hits . Once again nice coin .

I say MS-63 at best, hits on obverse.
