Found this today looking through my brothers change. Would like thoughts on if this is a die clash. There are many listed in 1984 but the pics I've seen on maddieclashes appear to be much stronger examples. This is probably nothing but it did stand out under my lighting. If it is a clash it has to be the weakest ever (though I've never seen one in person, only on the web.) because it's weird that I can see it better w/ the naked eye than my loupe. It appears to be nearly flush with the field. Put it under my scope and was difficult to see. It appears to be a bay just under Abe's chin, under his nose and two visible to the right of nose. Would appreciate any thoughts or comments. Thanks.

Looks like a "Jail House" Memorial cent.

There are certain things, like clashes and trail dies, that have to be viewed differently, sometimes at an angle, sometimes from a distance. You can get too close for these things sometimes. Nice find!

Added: Lighting from different directions also makes a difference as to how well you can get these anomalies to show up too.

Sometimes the clash doesn't show as well. It just occurred to me it might be from a die that was over polished that the bays were reduced on? The 1983 & 84 dies went through a lot of polishing. (A lot of clashes those years)

@makes Thank you for the reply. I know it's not a biggie but kinda cool to find something.

@Coop your explanation makes sense. I was trying to figure out 1) if this was something and 2) how it could almost so perfectly flush with the field. Thanks!

Looks like it is in need of an acetone bath.

@John1 I'm sure it's not worth much but is the acetone safe? I bought some a couple weeks ago to try but haven't experimented with it yet. Would I just let it soak say overnight?

Update. Took John's advice and used a Q-Tip w/ acetone to clean off both sides. To my pleasant surprise I found three more bays clashed to the left of Abe's head by the 'RTY' of 'Liberty.' I'm stoked about that! Thanks. (Also it cleaned the gum or whatever from the reverse).

Very light clash, coop is probably right, someone probably partially polished the clash but didn't get it all.

A bit if conservation is in order if you're keeping it. I always recommend following the Polarity Ladder:
