I was going to post pics of this coin with a "what grade is it?" request as a funny, or start a new topic as "Show me your ugliest coin!". But after taking pics, I looked at the edge. Considering the condition, it would be expected that some reeding would be missing, but there's no evidence of ANY. Next step: weigh it. 11.4 grams, vs. nominal 12.5. Now I'm not sure if it's an authentic coin. Unfortunately I don't have a silver test kit. Please let me know your opinion - thanks! I'd say it's not gradable.

Now that is one badly beat up parking-lotted coin It could also be a badly executed counterfeit, but not too sure on that.

Where did you get this?

It doesn't "feel" like a counterfeit, not that "feel" is any real real measure of authenticity. But it certainly seems that it spent a bit of time on a gravel road.

NumismaticsFW, this priceless treasure either came in a lot of junk silver or was in a bunch of old silver I inherited. Either way, it's been rattling around in my junk silver box for over 20 years.

I see nothing to go on visually to decide if real or fake. Drop it on a hard surface and see if it sounds like silver. You're sure not going to hurt it.

I'm leaning towards a genuine silver Half . It went through a lot more than just being a road kill . Something ate away at this coin although I don't know what would pit it so badly , Silver just doesn't succumb to that kind of disintegration .

Ouch - that is seriously beat up. Appears to be a genuine example although there is no way to be sure with the detail remaining.

"what grade is it? i guess it has silver value but thats about it if its real but who would ever counterfeit a coin looking like that? the only thing I can think of is that someone could have been messing around making an impression in sand and poured a metal alloy into the impression. the lack of reeding is intriguing.
