Hello coin experts, I have this John Q Adams with 2 different color sides. The obverse is mat and the reverse is brilliant. Any help identifying this coin would be greatly appreciated!

Can't be missing clad, these were struck from a copper alloy. Possibly one side was struck from a newer die than the other side. In any case, it is not an error or a variety.

I'm thinking environmental tarnishing/discolouration.

Seems to be a lot of fingerprints, possibly accounting for the duller surfaces in some areas.

Quote: They are clad coins Not according to the information under "US Coin Facts" on the sidebar. One of the sources must be wrong.

This is pretty cool! Now that you've resolved this clad thing, can someone conform if this could possibly be a missing clad or pal her error? Lol! This is fun!

I do not think it is missing clad, per say. Either Enviromental toning or circulation wear. John1

What's the mintmark on this one? From the photos it looks like an impaired proof with a little toning.

Could have been an end coin in a roll.

It's funny, but I found 2 more Presidential dollars with the same dull obverse and shiny reverse. I'm puzzled! Can all 3 be environmental?
