This coin has some very striking lines going through the obverse and less on the reverse. Thoughts on what is going on with it? Thanks!

See what others have to say.

Still learning about clad coins, so I'll leave this to others but very cool looking! It does resemble roller lines though, as JimmyD said.

I am now thinking draw bar lines. Trying to research the coining process now to understand the draw bar.

An explanation of the difference between roller lines and draw bar lines would be appreciated.

Copied from the PCGS "lingo" page.

Roller marks
Term to describe the mostly parallel incuse lines seen on some coins after striking. These were originally thought to be lines resulting from debris "scoring" the metal strips before the blanks were cut. However, new research has pointed to the final step of strip preparation, the draw bar. To reduce the strips to proper thickness, the final step was to pass them through the draw bar. It certainly seems logical that debris in the draw bar may cause these lines, if so, then draw-bar marks or lines would be a more appropriate term.

"draw bar"

Hadn't heard that term for many years. Being a farm boy, that was what we called on the tractor, to where a wagon would connect to pull the wagon with the tractor. I haven't heard of that for 60 years.

Your coin has what I'm going to call annealing lines. This is not a draw bar or rolling lines issue in my humble opinion. All of these coins combined are proof of an annealing error and yours displays that same anomaly

I hope these help to understand what's going on with your coin and mines. It looks like when the planchets are overheated the strike is more detailed and higher grade. Just me?

Ahhhh, thanks, RW. I thought I remembered someone posting the same type of anomaly but could not find it. I looked through your different posts and never saw a solid answer. Maybe Mike Diamond could offer up something on this?
