Hi all, I'm new to this - inherited a coin collection and suddenly having to work out what everything's worth, what to do with it etc. This is one of the more exciting finds so far - I'd appreciate anyone's thoughts on this half penny's grade and authenticity (I've googled, it looks right to me, but: newbie) Cheers!

It appears to be genuine.
The way to tell is there should be a thin die crack at the base of the date.
Aussie grade is good Fine.

Many thanks for the welcome, and the grading thoughts. It's a steep learning curve. The collection came from someone who obviously knew her coins. Among so many other cool sets, she's got a full set of half pennies including this one... so if I can ask the follow up question:

What would you guys do to sell it? Take it to a dealer, auction house, get it valued and sell it yourself...? Sell as a set or individual coins?

It obviously comes down to a compromise between time/hassle and money - I don't need to get the absolute top dollar out of every part of the collection - it's more important that her beloved coins go to people who'll love them. And that I don't get sucked into the hobby myself! They're so fascinating and the temptation is real, but I do *not* have the space or time...

One obvious first step is to take them to a few dealers and ask what they would offer. However, don't accept any offer yet. This is the minimum price you can get for them as you consider other options.

I'd go through an auction house.
Otherwise wait for a coin show and you can talk to a number of dealers together.
