Hi all, I have researched this query and found a heap of info from all good members. However, it does seem like a minefield. I want to run a simple competition to celebrate 500 posts, and the likelihood of the winner being from the USA is fairly high. I'm trying to get my head around what the export import implications will be if I need to post the prize which will be old aussie coins. (70 pre-dec pennies) It seems the most economical way would be by Economy Air. I did a dry run on AusPost's postage calculator and it seems to accept (without a prohibited goods warning) the type of goods being collectable coins, rather than collectors coins.
Has anyone here had recent experience with this? All advice gratefully accepted. The Ox moves slowly, but the Earth is patient.

ttkoo, I have been sending coin packages to the U.S.A. for may years. Previously, I always listed the items as "Hobby Supplies", but now they ask what sort of hobby, and then bring up a list of items to select. I have never selected coins, for obvious reasons and the goods have always got through. They will also have to be sent as a parcel, as letters can only be paper goods.

Thanks to all for your advice, greatly appreciated. Collectable Train Tokens sounds on the money (pun intended) or Collectable Gaming Tokens. Anyway, I'll proceed....what could go wrong? I often see interesting items from sellers in Australia, but when they tack on shipping @ $20 to the US I lose interest.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Yes it's an extra expense. Some on ebay charge way too much for postage. AusPost quoted me just over AU$40 (US$26) to send the 2 lb parcel including signed delivery which I thought was more than fair.
