Thought it was a ugly scratch but after looking at it more it looks to be a pretty substantial die crack. I've never seen a PL dollar with one. is this a keeper?

It's the first die crack I've ever seen that runs right through the middle of a design element. Die cracks are normally in the fields and start wherever a sharp change of design (like a serif, leaf tip, denticle, etc) and go through to another design element to its edge. I can't remember ever seeing one like that, but I'm not into dollars or modern coinage. Maybe it was getting ready to break apart. Good keeper, just because of the oddity.

I would keep it. I have a lot of die cracks, but none for dollar coins.

I can understand the possibility of human error on behald of the RCM, and why the die crack was missed.

It may have been confused amongst the water lines, and as part of a join line on the canoe skin.

With a very cursory glance, I missed it myself.

Definitely a keeper ! - this coin would find a permanent place in my collection.
