Something to look out for in the future is that while not always the case, a lot of times these fakes are made to look worn and dirty artificially, and will often have a pattern of a darker ring around the rim while the center of the coin appears cleaner. Not all fakes have this, but a ton do. Authentic coins can have that pattern, but it's not the most common thing in the world. Even in the rare case where a legitimate silver dollar has that wear pattern, you would expect to see more wear on the details of the coin as well. It's certainly a major red flag to see that pattern on an otherwise XF/AU coin. For example, when I see it on
Morgan dollars, it immediately concerns me. I looked through about 10 tubes of Morgans that I have and know for a fact are authentic. I think I found one or two with that wear pattern. When you see listings of multiple silver dollars and most if not all have that wear pattern, they're probably fake. I can't remember where I came across it, but I've seen some videos showing the counterfeiting process at some shop in China and at the very end is a step where they add the fake wear on something like a buffing wheel.
