Looks like post strike damage. Note the reverse is still showing the rim, but it is distorted. So at one time after the strike the coin was normal. (I've seen this before in the past)
That one is awesome damage! I bet it got sold a couple times as an error before it got zapped by someone who knows better. I'm also in the "pressed" corner with this one. I'm thinking the reverse was buffered maybe with leather while the obverse was allowed to show the details of the pipe or whatever was up against it.
Unless you caused the damage, it's difficult to tell what caused this damage, but damage it is, post mint. Interesting shapes can be made, but no value is added to such a damaged coin.
