1919 P Wheat Penny Very Red - Help!

Color can occur different on the planchets, but on your coin, that is not the case. Looks like as already mentioned, it was found outside. This alters all coin to that same color you are seeing. We often call this a metal detector find.

The color can hub off the higher places on the coin first:

Exposing the natural color under the coating. Eventually this will wear off and the coin will remain dull looking in sheen:



Not a plus for these coins.

to the CCF As stated above. I don't know what chemical is involved that turns copper to this red, but it happens to a lot of cents. This color is not the designation of red when you grade a coin. A red designation means the coins color looks like it was just minted.

with some sort of environmental staining/toning or the possible use of chemicals to alter this coins color.
