I have had this coin around for several years so not sure where I picked this up or how much I paid. I bought it fully believing it was a 1912-S. Come sometime later when I was looking at my other 12-S cents did I discover what I really had...

Of course I now know that the mintmark is the wrong shape and the shoulder has the VDB on it.

I know of the 44-D altered to 14-D, but this was a strange one.

Easy to spot with the extra space between the 9 and the1.
There have been literally dozens of the modified 1944 on
ebay that have been reported and removed.

Correct typo

Fake 1943 copper cent.

Altered 48 cent.
Note how the altered '4' leaves a space between the 19_14-D

Interesting find. Maybe it was practice for the 1944 they had on deck.

I'd have to check but pretty sure I haven't run across that alteration either. Seems like an obvious one for someone to fake but with 11-S and 14-D being the more expensive ones those are the ones usually faked.

Great set of photos - Thanks!

Odd - the 1918 looks the most convincing, but to what avail?

That 1912-S is an obvious alteration now that we know to look for it.

Nice photos @NSS, thanks for sharing those additional examples.
