I believe I found a very unique one of a kind 1930 Wheat penny! I've been searching online in hopes to find out the value of it but have been unsuccessful finding any information about it. Any information or help with this coin would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Appears plated and once-encased in some sort of bezel. Just a damaged coin. to the CCF!

A weight to two decimal places might tell us more. It appears the coin is a well-circulated example that's been plated, and possibly encased at one point as a jewelry piece.

@mele, first welcome to CCF. Second, can you confirm if a strong magnet is attracted to this cent? Thx.

I agree it looks like it was in a piece of jewelry and has been plated. It now is a PMD coin.Original weight would have been 3.1 grams +/- .13 grams. John1

The coin was slabbed before. Can you tell us what they wrote?

Circulation wear reduced the weight, but someone plated coin. How do we know it is not a Steel cent? Steel cents are 2.7 grams and very highly magnetic. The plating can add weight and be slightly attracted to the plating. Try a magnet to your coin. It will show a little attraction, but a steel cent will jump towards a magnet. Also that year only had copper cents. Copper cents aren't attracted like steel cents, only when they are plated. Now just a Wheat cent, but not of real interest with the plating. But look how much you already learned with your first coin posted here.

That makes a lot of sense. I had always thought that they were sometimes plated in mercury but the plating process didn't make sense.

If it were, it would be a bad thing to hand. (Poisonous) But plating is probably the cause.
