I was doing laundry the other day, and I went to put this quarter in the dryer, but it would not go in it is too thick. So I took the coin home and researched it but cannot find any information on the web as you can see on the face there is a smudge in the cheek ear region and on the reverse side there is the same thing on the shoulder area of Washington this is a 2021 Crossing the Delaware quarter. Also note that the quarter is smaller in diameter than a normal 2021 crossing the Delaware quarter and around the ring there is no ridges. Any help would be greatly appreciated as to what error this is if it is one thank you in advance.

you have a Dryer Coin! that quarter was stuck in a dryer for a while, which accounts for the smaller size, higher rims and missing reeding.

Hello and welcome.

Just curious - was it a coin you brought into the laundry with you, or a coin you found there in the laundry? Because this is not an error, but very much a typical example of what we call a " Dryer Coin" - a coin that got left in an industrial clothes dryer or some similar piece of machinery, and rolled around and around inside the mechanism for some time. The rolling caused the edge to spoon out, and the constant rubbing caused the high points on front and back to wear away.

@mbu, first welcome to CCF. Second, how fun that you were trying to insert a so-called Dryer Coin into the payment slot of a coin-op dryer! It is a fun find, but only worth face value.

Don't discount the possibility of a spooned coin. Could be dryer, could be spooned. Google 'spooned coin'.

would that make it an 'anti-dryer', Dryer Coin?

looks more like a spooned coin instead of a Dryer Coin.

I vote for Dryer Coin, but could go either way.
