I'm totally new to coin collecting.
I have two 1989 Lincoln cents which I was comparing then I noticed that one of them has the obverse not aligned correctly..
Can someone help me with some basic information about considering this as an error or not? and what is proper term for it? and how does it affect the value of the coin.

@moat, first welcome to CCF. Second, when only one side is not centered, the term is "mis-aligned die" and when both sides are not centered the term is "off-centered strike". Typically, we tell people that unless some of the details are falling off the edge of the coin, then there is no numismatic premium.

Spence got this one right. If you see somebody call it a 'MAD' (cent, nickel, dime.. etc) that is short for "Mis-Aligned Die".

They are only collectable when the devices fall for the edge of the coin:

Note the illustration, it shows the dies misalignment. Also note on this coin, the weakness of the strike on the opposite side where the pressure was not over that area of the reverse on the strike:

Thus the weakness seen on the reverse of the coin. If this is present, then there is a premium for these coins.
